Passed at Home
When someone dies at home you should:
- Immediate Steps: If a loved one passes away at home, promptly call their General Practitioner (GP). The GP will issue a Medical Certificate stating the cause of death. In cases where a locum or another medical practitioner is involved, they will provide a Statement of Death.
- Contacting Us: Please reach out to us at 020 3026 3032. We will respectfully transport the deceased into our care following the doctor's visit. If you wish for your loved one to remain at home for a while longer, inform us at your earliest convenience, and we will guide you through the process.
- Death Registration: Register the death within 5 days at the Registry Office nearest to the place of passing. This should ideally be done by a close relative or the executor of the will. Please note that many Registry Offices operate on an appointment basis.
- Funeral Arrangements: You may discuss funeral arrangements with us either prior to or following the death registration. Once registered, we are available to manage all arrangements or provide advice as required. For additional information, please consult the Government's comprehensive guide on post-bereavement procedures at https://www.gov.uk/when-someone-dies.
- Coroner Referral: If the death is sudden or unexpected, it may be referred to a coroner due to the unknown cause of the death. Learn more about this process at https://www.gov.uk/after-a-death/when-a-death-is-reported-to-a-coroner.
